Ive been using GIMP for about... 2 months...ish....
These are some thing i have made ::

I find GIMP a lot easier to use than Photoshop...
With GIMP2.4, you can download any photoshop brush, and use it on GIMP...
If you have any questions, dont be afraid to ask

Re: GIMP =)
Hi Pyro, glad you could make it! I have the free version of GIMP(GIMP 2.4.2) I just opened it for the first time about 1 hour or so ago,so I'll prob bug you to death till I understand the basics of the program. So,look forward to being pestered to the brink of haveing a nervous breakdown.
Re: GIMP =)
First question: when I open gimp,I can find nothing to add layers,is there a way to start with the first layer, leaving it blank, then add a layer, and work that layer, and add more layers to work separately, then go back to first layer to work it?(I told you I will drive you nuts)
Re: GIMP =)
Hmm.... i have no idea... You add a layer by Layer>New Layer at the top toolbar... and you can go to File>Dialogs>Layer on the main GIMP page and that will show you each layer

something missing?
Here is a screen capture of what appears when I open Gimp,I dont see anywhere to add, show, delete,,,,anything to do with layers.Mabe there is something I am not seeing,or mabe I need to reinstall because something never installed correctly.

Re: GIMP =)
Ok... First... Hit File>New then select the size...
THERE you hit Layer>New Layer
On the screen you took a pic of, hit File>Dialog>Layer...
For me it pops up in a new layer
It also helps if you make GIMP smaller... heh

Re: GIMP =)
And you are right about the size,it makes a difference,I'm just used to working most things at 1024x728 or larger, thens sizing them down
Re: GIMP =)
yep,it does make things easier when you have more room to work with it on your monitor screen
Re: GIMP =)
No... That is from a RenderPack I downloaded...
PlanetRenders.net is a GREAT website to get pics with transparent backrounds to put in pics in stuff
I just got the render, the "Halo3" sign... Added some text, made a backround and Viola
